Your business has a better story than the one you’re telling.
I help financial, professional services and technology businesses work out what’s worth saying, sharpen it, and get it in front of the people who matter.
Talk to Catherine →What I bring

I’m Catherine Day, and Hablar is my independent communications practice.
I work with businesses when they have something important to say and need it to land with journalists, clients, investors or their own people.
I’ve done this from several sides of the table. I started out as a consultant at Deloitte, working across insurance, banking and capital markets, then moved into communications: first as a strategist at a B2B marketing agency, then in PR agencies. From there I went in-house to corporate communications at Swift, the global financial infrastructure organisation, before moving into its AI literacy work. So I know how these businesses think, what makes them cautious, and what a journalist will actually find interesting.
You get senior thinking from the person who does the work. There’s no account team and no hand-offs.
When I tend to get involved
There’s a good story in the business, but no one’s telling it.
The expertise, ideas and changes happening inside the business aren’t making it outside the building.
The PR isn’t going anywhere.
Announcements go out and coverage doesn’t come back. The fix is usually better angles, not more press releases.
You’re about to announce something.
Funding, a launch, a senior hire or a regulatory milestone. You get one chance to make it count.
A senior leader needs to say something that matters.
A speech, interview, results day or difficult message needs to sound like a person, not a policy document.
The expertise is there, but the content isn’t.
You have plenty of clever people, and very little worth reading under their names.
AI is in the team, but not in the workflow.
People are experimenting, but no one has agreed how to use it well or how to check what it produces.
What I do
- 01
Strategic communications
Positioning, messaging and communications strategy, built around what makes your business genuinely different.
- 02
PR, media relations and content
Media strategy, journalist engagement, and thought leadership that earns attention rather than adding to the noise.
- 03
Executive messaging and training
Speeches, talking points, briefings and media preparation, tailored to the person, the audience and the moment.
- 04
AI for communications
Prompting, workflow design, output review and training, so AI improves the work rather than just speeding it up.
What others say
“I’ve worked with Catherine on PR and media activity and have been consistently impressed by her media judgement, writing and ability to deliver results quickly. She understands what makes a story newsworthy and how to position it effectively, and secured interviews with leading UK broadsheet newspapers, including the Financial Times, very quickly. She is an excellent writer, highly professional and thoughtful, with very good judgement.”
“Catherine has sound judgement and excellent media relations and people skills. She is a strong writer who can easily turn her hand to different styles to suit the audience and spokesperson, and make complex subject matter understandable and relevant to wide audiences.”

Clarity beats volume.
Most businesses don’t need to say more. They need to work out what’s actually interesting, who needs to hear it, and why anyone should care.
That work happens long before the press release, and it’s where I spend most of my time.
How I work
Focused projects
A defined piece of work: a launch, a positioning exercise, a media push.
Ongoing counsel
Regular senior support, close to the business, without the cost and layers of an agency.
Workshops and training
Practical sessions on messaging, media and using AI well.
